BLESSED LEADERS.

" Spiritual Qualifications for Leadership "

Titus 1:9  He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others
by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it. (NIV)

Church elders must be 'men of the message': that was Paul's clear instruction to Titus
as he set about his task of ordering the fast growing church in Crete.

Firstly, they must believe the gospel personally, be known as people who base their own lives on the salvation of Jesus Christ, and be in submission to Him.
They were not free to change the message, even though parts of the gospel would be a personal challenge to every leader.

The 'apostolic gospel' (the way to come to Christ and live in Him as taught by Paul and the other Apostles),
was personally authorized by Jesus: it was not a 'primitive theology' from which more comfortable
and culturally acceptable versions could be derived.

The elders' primary spiritual task was to build up the faith of their congregation by preaching,
teaching and explaining the Lordship of Christ.
If they could not do that, they should not be appointed to the role.

Elders should expound the truth to those who were eager to learn,
and also patiently explain the way of Christ to people who opposed the teaching:
if they refused to listen, they should be rebuked.

That is what that the Lord Jesus intended when He first commissioned the Apostles to 'make disciples'.

We need to hear this verse again today.
When people want the gospel to be diluted or changed to suit social preferences,
the elders must be strongly courageous to proclaim the truth and strongly courageous to denounce error.

It is not a popular or easy life! When people wrongly see the church as a community where they can gather support for their opinions, the supremacy of Christ must be reasserted.

When the church is more concerned to please its members or appease external pressure, than make disciples of Christ -
the elders have failed in their duty.

The greatest danger to the church is weak leadership which fails to hold to the apostolic gospel:
the greatest hope for the church is in the message faithfully taught by leaders who are committed to Christ.

So pray for your leaders; and if you are one of them make sure that your first priority is to live
and teach the same message that the Apostle Paul taught.

Prayer for the day : -

Sovereign Lord. Thank You for shaping Your church according to the message You gave to the Apostles.

I am sorry when I have devalued Your message by failing to live it or teach it.
Please help all who lead the church in Your Name to hold firmly to the apostolic gospel.

May they teach it courageously and be strong to refute error.
May all who call themselves believers in Jesus Christ support those leaders who live and teach in that way,
praying for them in their difficult calling as they make disciples and confront false teaching.

In Jesus' Name. Amen.

BLESSED REFORM

   " Radical Reform "

Colossians 3:5-6  Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality,
impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. (NIV)

New life in Christ is incompatible with the old life outside of Christ and opposed to His authority.
Because He died to pay the penalty for that rebellion,
all those who have been released from condemnation must not return to rebellion.

The earthly nature puts a high value on money, sex and power -
which are motivated by sinful cravings, the lust of the eyes and pride (1 John 2:16).

These are all opposed to the life of Christ.
When a believer recognizes how deeply they offend Christ,
repentance is the first step followed by radical changes of behavior and lifestyle.

Although we should dispose of all ungodliness in response to the love of God,
hardened hearts often need a severe warning.

Paul provides a two-part challenge.
Firstly, he identifies the various forms of immorality as being idolatry.
That is, self-satisfaction becomes a god to be worshipped (thought about, talked about, spending time and money on it).

And all such idols are offensive to God.

As He says in Isaiah 42:8, "I am the Lord; that is my name!
I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols."

God does not tolerate idols or enter into dialogue or peace treaty with those who worship them.
And secondly, God's intolerance of idols will result in His wrath coming to those who love them.

This sort of language may seem very stark.
But it is true to God's character.

Wherever the warnings are ignored in the church (for this letter is not written to pagans but to Christians),
the Name of Christ is shamed.

The gospel of Christ cannot be productive where believers are playing games with the world's agenda.
And because willful souls instinctively fear God's wrath, they have no joy, peace, purpose or hope.

They become a liability to the church, a slur on the gospel and risk Divine action against them (1 Corinthians 10:1-14).

These verses were written to such people.
If you are one of them, today is a very good day to decide that the idols must go.

Prayer for the day : -

Holy God.

Thank You for clearly expressing Your hatred of ungodly passions and the idolatry they represent.

I confess the ease with which I consider my fleshly desires as natural and normal, appetites which I must satisfy.

Please forgive me for putting them before the authority of Christ in my life.

I know I have to make a radical decision to put them away,
and I ask for Your help in putting my decisions into action.

May I learn wisdom as I fear the wrath of the Lord and practice obedience to Your Word.

In Jesus' Name. Amen.

                                                      " Dementia "

Most of us start worrying about dementia after retirement - and that may be too little, too late.
Experts say that if you really want to ward off dementia,
you need to start taking care of your  brain in your 30s and 40s - or even earlier.

"More and more research is suggesting that lifestyle is very important to your brain's health," says  Dr. Paul Nussbaum, a neuro-psychologist and an adjunct associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
"If you want to live a long, healthy life, then many of us need to start
as early as we can."
So what can you do to beef up your brain - and possibly ward off dementia?
Nussbaum, who recently gave a speech on the topic for the Winter Park (Fla.) Health Foundation,
offers 20 tips that may help.

1.
Join clubs or organizations that need volunteers.  If you start volunteering now,
you won't feel lost and unneeded after you retire.

   2.

Develop a hobby or two.  Hobbies help you develop a robust brain
because you're trying something new and complex.

3.
Practise writing with your non-dominant hand several minutes everyday.
This will exercise the opposite side of your brain and fire up those neurons.

4.
Take dance lessons.
In a study of nearly 500 people, dancing was the  only regular physical activity associated with a significant decrease
in the incidence of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease.
The people who danced three or four times a week showed 76 percent less incidence of dementia than those who danced only once a week or not at all.

5.

Need a hobby? Start gardening.  Researchers in New Zealand found that, of 1,000 people,
those who gardened regularly were less likely to suffer from dementia!
Not only does gardening reduce stress, but gardeners use their brains to plan gardens;
they use visual and spatial reasoning to lay out a garden.

6.

7.
Read and write daily.  Reading stimulates a wide variety of brain areas that process and store information.
Likewise, writing (not copying) stimulates many areas of the brain as well.

8.
Start knitting.  Using both hands works both sides of your brain.
And it's a stress reducer.

9.

Learn a new language. Whether it's a foreign language or sign language, you are working your brain
by making it go back and forth between one language and the other.
A researcher in England found that being bilingual seemed to delay symptoms of Alzheimer's disease for four years.
And some research suggests that the earlier a child learns sign language, the higher his IQ - and people with high IQs are less likely to have dementia.
So start them early.

10.
Play board games such as Scrabble and Monopoly.
Not only are you taxing your brain, you're socializing too.
Playing solo games, such as
solitaire or online computer brain games can be helpful,
but Nussbaum prefers games that encourage you to socialize too.

11.
Take classes throughout your lifetime.
Learning produces structural and chemical changes in the brain, and education appears to help people live longer.
Brain researchers have found that people with advanced degrees live longer - and if they do have Alzheimer's,
it often becomes apparent only in the very later stages of the disease.

12.
Listen to classical music.
A growing volume of research suggests that music may hard wire the brain,
building links between the two hemispheres.
Any kind of music may work, but there's some research that
shows positive effects for classical music,
though researchers don't understand why.

13.

Learn a musical instrument. It may be harder than it was when you were a kid,
but you'll be developing a dormant part of your brain.

14.
Travel.  When you travel (whether it's to a distant vacation spot or on a different route across town),
you're forcing your brain to navigate a new and complex environment.
A study of London taxi drivers found experienced drivers had larger brains
because they have to store lots of information about locations and how to navigate there.

15.
Pray.  Daily prayer appears to help your immune system.
And people who attend a formal worship service regularly live longer and report happier, healthier lives.

16.
Learn to meditate
It's important for your brain that you learn to shut out
 the stresses of everyday life.

17.
Get enough sleep. Studies have shown a link between interrupted sleep and dementia.

18.
Eat more foods containing Omega-3 fatty acids:
Salmon, sardines, tuna, ocean trout, mackerel or herring, plus walnuts
(which are higher in omega 3s
than salmon) and flaxseed. Flaxseed oil,
cod liver oil and walnut oil are good sources too.

19.
Eat more fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants in fruits and vegetables mop up
some of the damage caused by free radicals, one of the leading killers of brain cells.

20.
Eat at least one meal a day with family and friends.
You'll slow down, socialize, and research shows you'll eat healthier food than if you ate alone or on the go.

DOING ALL 20 THINGS LISTED ABOVE AND YOU WILL NOT FIND ENOUGH TIME IN YOUR LIFE
TO FIT IN DEMENTIA AS WELL: IN OTHER WORDS,
"CONTINUE TO DO ALL THE THINGS THAT YOU ALREADY DO AND YOU WILL HAVE COVERED MOST OF THE THINGS LISTED!"

Blessed and Fulfilled Life.

" Through the Storm "

I read an email the other day from a reader who said 'she didn't understand what God was doing in her life.'

It seems that she had experienced one storm after the other and could not 'see' what God was doing.

I couldn't get this email off my mind.  As I thought about it God reminded me of a couple of things.

First of all He reminded me of a time when I was driving to another city.  It was a nice drive and then a storm suddenly arose.

It was torrential rain and wind, lightening was flashing all around, it certainly made the way appear treacherous.  I was praying silently because I could see my passenger was getting nervous.

She finally said 'I can't see a thing.'  I replied 'it's okay, don't worry, I can see fine.'

Then He reminded me of another time.  We had experienced an ice and snow storm in our area, it was beautiful but dangerous to drive in, however my friend and I decided we wanted to ride through the mountains and enjoy the ice and snow.

My friend is an excellent driver and even though the roads were icy and tricky to navigate, it never once entered my mind to be concerned because I trusted her driving ability completely.

In our life as a Christian, God is NOT the co-pilot, or at least He shouldn't be - He is the PILOT - the DRIVER - the one behind the wheel.  He can be trusted.  Now, I know we have all been in the vehicle with someone whom we weren't comfortable with their driving.

The reason we feel uncomfortable in the situation is because we don't know how they will react or what they will do in certain situations.  We KNOW how we would react, but we can't trust their reaction...only because we are not familiar with their driving.

I have learned to trust God's driving.  Over the past 24 years I have been on many, many rocky roads with God driving.  While, at first, I questioned His faithfulness to get me where we were going, I don't question it any longer.  I have learned, after many journeys with God, to trust Him and His word.

Even when I can't see where we are going.  Even and especially when the storms of life are torrential and causing me to be unable to see the path ahead.

At those times I have learned to trust His driving...in the same way I trusted my friend that day in the ice and snow.  I may not understand and I may not be able to see, but I trust God completely.

Jeremiah 29:11 says; for I know the thoughts I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Deuteronomy 4:31 says; for God is a merciful God, He will not forsake you, nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant He has with you.

Deuteronomy 31:8 says; and the Lord, He is the one who goes before you.  He will not leave you, nor forsake you.

You may find yourself in the passenger's seat today, unsure of where you are going.

You may not be able to clearly see the path before you, if this is you know that God is the one who goes before you, He will never leave you nor forsake you...if He says you are going to the other side, you will - no storm will be able to stop you.

As you travel with God as the driver, you will begin to trust God.  The longer you ride with Him, the more you will be able to trust Him and His faithfulness.

God sees all, He knows exactly where you are going, He knows the way, He is not concerned, His vision is perfect and He has a good plan for you - trust Him and His plan.

Blessed and Fulfilled Life

Y
ou were created by Almighty God to live a blessed and fulfilled life.

But so many people live far below the level of what God truly intends for them simply because they don’t see how it could happen.

But the truth is you have to believe before you are ever going to see something take place in the natural.

You have to look with your eyes of faith because the provision, healing and miracle that you need is already available in the supernatural realm.

You might say, “Well, I don’t know how to do that. I don’t know how to look with my eyes of faith.”

The way you open your eyes of faith is by reading and meditating on the Word of God.

His Word deposits strength and faith inside you and illuminates your heart.

His Word causes your faith to grow so you can believe His promises.

And when you believe it, then you will see it because all things are possible for those who believe!

Today, feed your faith by meditating on His Word. Declare His promises over your life.

Keep moving forward with an attitude of faith and expectancy knowing that He has victory in store for your future!

Hebrews 11:3 says “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible”.

PRAYER: Father God, thank You for Your sweet and precious promises.

I choose to open the eyes of my heart so that I can see and receive the good things You have for me.

Help me to be a blessing to others and keep my mind stayed on You.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

BLESSED SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE.

“God, are you avoiding me? Where are you when I need you?”
                                                                     (Psalm 10:1 MSG)
We all hit walls at times in our relationship with God.
They’re simply a part of the package.
Even David, whom the Lord calls “a man after God’s own heart” had times when God seemed very distant.
David once prayed to God, “God, are you avoiding me?
Where are you when I need you?” (Psalm 10:1 MSG)
Yesterday, I started sharing about the four major problems that tend to derail our time alone with God.
I started with the problem of discipline
Today, we’ll look at the problem of dry spells. I call this one the “battle of the blahs”!
We simply can’t judge our quiet times by emotions. Why?
Emotions lie.Feelings come and go.
Some days it’ll feel like heaven just opened up for you, and you have a great time with God. Then there are other days your quiet time will seem ordinary and bland.
Don't expect to have great and glorious experiences every single morning. The issue is consistency.
Yet, if you are having a long period of dryness in your quiet time, you might look at one of these possible causes:
  • Unconfessed Sin: God isn’t going to show you anything new until you do what he has already shown you.
  • Physically Unprepared: If you’re tired or stressed, it can be hard to have a fresh quiet time.
  • Trying Too Much: Pick chunks of Scripture that are too large, and you’ll rush your time with God. You never want to put yourself in a situation where you hurry God.
  • Routine: If you do the same thing every time, your quiet time will turn legalistic. Experiment with some fresh ideas. Mix up your quiet time.
  • Not Sharing Your Insights: If you’re not putting into practice what God is teaching you, your spiritual life is bound to grow stale.
Spiritual dryness may be common, but it doesn’t have to be incurable.
Ask God where your dryness comes from, and let him help you turn things around.
Talk About It
  • How can you better prepare for your quiet time so that you are not tired or stressed when you are trying to focus on God’s Word?
  • What are some of the methods or ideas that you’ve learned from the last week of these devotionals that might help you mix things up in your quiet time?

                    " Honey " " Honey " " Honey " " Honey "
Honey is the only food (liquid) on the planet that will not spoil or rot.
" Honey " some people think it just turns to sugar. In reality honey is always honey.

However, when left in a cool dark place for a long time it will do what I rather call "crystallizing".

When this happens I would loosen the lid, boil some water, and let the honey container sit in the hot water, turn off the heat and let it liquefy.
It is then as good as it ever was.

Never boil honey or put it in a microwave. To do so will kill the enzymes in the honey.

CINNAMON AND HONEY

Bet the drug companies won't like this one getting around.

Facts on Honey and Cinnamon:

It is found that a mixture of honey and Cinnamon cures most diseases.

Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world.

Scientists today also accept honey as a 'Ram Ban' (very effective)
medicine for all kinds of diseases.

Honey can be used without any side effects for any kind of diseases.

Today's science says that even though honey is sweet, if taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients.

Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada , in its issue, dated 17 January, 1995 has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by honey and cinnamon as researched by western scientists.

HEART DISEASES:
Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, instead of jelly and jam, and eat it regularly for breakfast.

It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from
heart attack.

Also, those who have already had an attack, if they do this process daily,
they are kept miles away from the next attack.

Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat.

In America and Canada , various nursing homes have treated patients
successfully and have found that as you age, the arteries and veins lose
their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the
arteries and veins.

ARTHRITIS:
Arthritis patients may take daily, morning and night, one cup of hot water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder.

If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured.

In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University , it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one
tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week, out of the 200 people so treated, practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain, and within a month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis started walking without pain.

BLADDER INFECTIONS
Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder.

CHOLESTEROL
Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient, were found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours as
mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken three times a day, any chronic
cholesterol is cured.

According to information received in the said Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

COLDS
Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and clear the sinuses.

STOMACH UPSET
Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also clears
stomach ulcers from the root.

GAS
According to the studies done in India and Japan , it is revealed that if Honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach
is relieved of gas.

IMMUNE SYSTEM
Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacteria and viral attacks.

Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts.

Constant use of Honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacterial and viral diseases.

INDIGESTION
Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food relieves acidity and digests the heaviest of meals.

INFLUENZA
A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural 'Ingredient' which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from flu.

LONGEVITY
Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the ravages of old age.

Take four spoonfuls of honey, one spoonful of cinnamon powder, and three cups of water and boil to make like tea.

Drink 1/4 cup, three to four times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age.

Life spans also increase and even a 100 year old, starts performing the chores of a 20-year-old.

PIMPLES
Three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste.

Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it next morning with warm water. If done daily for two weeks, it removes pimples from the root.

SKIN INFECTIONS
Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin infections.

WEIGHT LOSS
Daily in the morning one half hour before breakfast on an empty stomach, and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup of water. If taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the most obese person.

Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high calorie diet.

CANCER

Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully.

Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one
tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder for one month three times a day.

FATIGUE
Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body.

Senior citizens, who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts, are more alert and flexible.

Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 P.M. when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, increases the vitality of the body within a
week.

BAD BREATH:
People of South America , first thing in the morning, gargle with one
teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water, so their breath stays fresh throughout the day.

HEARING LOSS
Daily morning and night honey and cinnamon powder, taken in equal parts restores hearing.

Blessed Times..

" The Dark Times "

This week I have had several emails from people who are discouraged and see no reason to keep trusting God -
they are literally ready to give up.

To them this is the darkest time of their life and they see no reason to keep doing what they have been doing,
they see no results...before you judge, I think we have all been there...it truly is a dark place.

I read Bryson a book this week about a caterpillar and a butterfly -
it talked about the dark, dark place a caterpillar lived just before he became a butterfly.

I have often thought about and even written about the life of a butterfly.
Not only are they in a dark place but a very confined place...just days before they fly.

Today the Lord kept talking to me about encouraging you to press on.
He wants me to remind you that it is often the darkest just before the dawn.

It is very often the darkest just before breakthrough.
It is in those times that the only thing that will stop your blessing is if you quit.

What would you lose to continue to trust God?
What would you lose to continue to believe that God wants to bless you?

What would you lose to continue to do the word of God and tithe and give?
What would you lose to just trust Him one more time?

On the other hand, what would you stand to lose if you choose to stop trusting Him now?

With God, even though He is working in your life every single day,
there always comes a day when the evidence that He was working all along is revealed - that day ALWAYS comes.

Think about Joseph, his life changed in an hour - from a prisoner to the second in command - in just a moment in time.

Remember, it was after God gave him a dream that his life became almost unbearable -
the darkest of dark is what he endured and he endured it for a long time.

He seemed totally forgotten and I am certain he thought he would die in that cold, dark, confined place called prison.

BUT GOD!
God fulfilled everything He said He would do.
Everything.
Not one promise was left unfulfilled.

Throughout the Bible we see this over and over, God's people are given a dream or a promise -
then it seems as if the opposite is happening - but those who keep trusting God always see the fulfillment of that promise.

As my friend, Deborah, says;
you have to be willing to keep giving, even when you think you have nothing left to give,
even then if God asks you to give all you have, you have to give it...if He requires it once,
or twice, or three times...you have to keep giving.'

She says this of a time when God asked her to give all the money she had three separate times,
the last time she gave all she had and she had literally nothing left.

She stopped at the store and bought milk and bread on a credit card.
She called me and said 'something is wrong Kim, God has had me give my all and now I have nothing to even buy milk and bread with.'

The spirit of the Lord spoke to me and I said 'Deborah, don't you realize what you have done?
God has required you give Him your all and He is now required to give you His all.'
It is the law of seed time and harvest.

Since that day her life has been an adventure - one right after the other and this girl is loving life.
She was willing to give and give when she felt like she had nothing left to give.
She was willing to obey regardless of the number of times she was asked and now God is giving her His all.

Is it dark in your life?
Do you feel like you are in a dark, confined place with no way out?
If so, little butterfly, who thinks you are a caterpillar, I say to you, it is time for you to break out and fly.

This dark place will soon be forgotten as you mount up on strong and glorious wings,
flying to all you are destined to be.

This dark place is passing quickly and the time of flying is upon you - don't give up now.

Don't die in the dark place - you have a glorious destiny and God is urging you to trust Him one more time.
To believe Him one more time.

To obey Him one more time...this could very well be the time that you burst through and receive all you have believed for.

Joseph must have thought he missed God more times than he could count - but He didn't.
All God had spoken came to pass.

You have not missed God - all He has spoken will come to pass...unless you stop now...don't stop...
keep trusting and believing and you will see every single word He has spoken to you fulfilled in your life,
the dark place will be behind you and blue skies ahead...it's time to burst out and fly.

How to escape a Heart Attack

HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE

Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness.

However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously.

A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest.

A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let-up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again.

Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating.

The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get to a hospital.

Tell as many other people as possible about this. It could save their lives!!

A cardiologist says If everyone who gets this mail sends it to 10 people, you can bet that we'll save at least one life.
